What do I need to be aware of before booking a trip with these new terms and conditions that have come into effect?
Eligibility and activation criteria are applicable in order for you to access the benefits provided under the policy. For example, to access the travel insurance benefits, the following criteria must be met:
1. The Qantas Premier Credit Card must be open (which means it is in-force and valid).
2. You must be seventy-nine (79) years of age or younger before You activate Your cover.
3. You must meet the definition of a Covered Person.
4. You must be Resident(s) of Australia.
Minimum spend requirements on your Qantas Premier Credit Card also apply. For a full list of the eligibility and activation criteria for the different cover sections, please refer to the section “Eligibility and Activation of cover under this Policy” in the new terms and conditions.
How do I know which cover has been updated or affected with this change?

Section D - Transport Accident Cover | This cover is now extended to domestic travel. The cover under this section for You and Your Spouse or Dependent Child(ren) was previously only available on overseas travel. Section F - Trip Delay Cover | A new benefit called ‘Extended delayed, cancelled, overbooked or missed onward flight’ has been introduced. If You have a valid claim for a delayed, cancelled, overbooked or missed onward flight, this cover will reimburse You for additional accommodation expenses for each full 24-hour period after the initial six-hour delay. The benefit limit is up to $100 per 24-hour period to a maximum of $300. A new benefit called Extended Personal Baggage delay checked on Scheduled Flight has been introduced to reimburse You for the reasonable emergency purchase of essential clothing and toiletries for each additional twenty-four (24) hours after the initial twelve (12) hours baggage delay. The benefit limit is up to $100 per 24-hour period, and limited to a maximum of $300 per claim. |

What are the changes to the travel insurance for overseas trips in the policy?

Section B - Overseas Medical Emergency Cover | An explicit limit for Repatriation/Evacuation expenses has been introduced. The sum insured is up to $250,000 for Repatriation/Evacuation costs if You suffer a Medical Emergency due to an injury or illness whilst on an overseas trip. A reduction in the benefit limits of Incidental Expenses from $100 per day to $50 per 24 hours, and from a maximum of $12,000 to a maximum of $3,000. The introduction of a new benefit for extra accommodation (room only) of up to $200 per 24 hours to a maximum of $4,000 for any person travelling with You. We have also added new cover to reimburse the reasonable costs, for a return economy airfare and extra accommodation (room-only) for Your friend or Close Relative to stay with You if you are traveling alone. |
Section C – Accidental Death Cover | The maximum benefits payable under this section for a Spouse have increased to be in line with a Card Member. |

If You have a valid claim for a delayed, cancelled, overbooked or missed onward flight, this cover will reimburse You for additional accommodation expenses for each full 24-hour period after the initial six-hour delay. Any extra accommodation is also covered for up to $300 per 24-hour period to a maximum of $4,200 for Your Close Relative to stay at the location of hijacking. |
Mugging and Domestic Pets covers (applicable for overseas travel) are removed and no longer applicable when the new terms and conditions come into effect.

Are there other changes besides travel insurance cover?
Yes, there have been changes to the retail item protection insurance, for example:
- Purchase Protection Cover (applicable to Qantas Premier Titanium credit card) - Eligible Item left unattended due to an emergency medical, security or evacuation situation will be considered to be stolen if the item is not subsequently recovered.
- Golfers’ Insurance (applicable to Qantas Premier Platinum and Everyday credit card) – This cover is removed when the new terms and conditions come into effect. Similar benefits may be accessible via the Personal Baggage, Valuables, Money and Documents Cover, while you are on an overseas or domestic trip.

Has there been any changes to the General Exclusions?
Yes, there have been changes to the General Exclusions within the Policy. You can find the updated list under “General Exclusions Applicable to All Sections” in the new terms and conditions. To provide greater clarity, some exclusions have been included from specific sections within the policy to the General Exclusions, whilst others have been newly introduced to the policy.
Here are a few General Exclusions which are applicable to all cover sections:
1. any Pre-existing Medical Conditions (except under Section E – Resumption of an Overseas Trip Cover, 2 - Returning to Australia for a Close Relative with a Pre-Existing Medical Condition);
5. where You:
a) are eighty (80) years of age or older before You activated cover; and/or
b) have not started and ended Your Trip from Australia; and/or
c) are not a Resident of Australia;
15. Your participation, involvement or taking part in Excluded Sports and Activities
What is the definition of natural disasters?
Natural Disaster means volcanic eruption, flood (more than 20,000 square metres of normally dry land), tsunami, earthquake, landslide, hurricane, tornado or bushfire. It does not mean any infectious or contagious disease or virus regardless of transmission (including pandemic or epidemic).
Will I be covered for Pregnancy?
If You are or become pregnant after You activate cover, You are covered for claims that arise from Your Pregnancy, under:
- Overseas Medical Emergency Expenses Cover when You are on an Overseas Return Trip, if:
- You have a sudden and unexpected Injury or Illness, which occurs before the end of the 23rd week of Your pregnancy; and
- is not otherwise excluded within this Policy.
- Trip Cancellation and Amendment Cover, if You have a sudden and unexpected Injury or Illness;
- That prevents You going on the Trip or continuing the Trip, and
- such Injury or Illness is confirmed by medical evidence provided by a treating Doctor; and
- is not otherwise excluded within this Policy.
Is my baby covered if it is born prematurely (e.g. before 8 weeks)?
No, as per the pregnancy clause a newborn both premature or otherwise is not considered a Covered Person under the policy if it was born on the trip.
Under the new definition of pre-existing medical conditions am I covered if I had a heart attack 10 years ago but still require medication to this day?
No, as per the terms and conditions, a pre-existing condition is any condition where it requires ongoing medication for treatment or risk factor control.
